Institute of Ecotechnics, UK (IE) is the parent organisation of Ecotechnics Maritime Ltd., which owns and operates the Research Vessel Heraclitus. IE, UK has consulted on and catalysed a multitude of demonstration projects in all biomes. The Heraclitus is the demonstration project for the ocean biome.

IE co-founder and systems ecologist, John Polk Allen,FLS, authored a seminal paper on Ethnospherics, which informs the Heraclitus expeditions:
